things and plans have changed here and now the rudeblog is probably staying in this same domain, however a new project is developing for a collective site where different digital ideas can be mixed, gathered and transformed by everyone involved... you will probably hear some news on the rudetribe soon!!

but now the spotlight comes down on a great independent soundsystem i have gotten to know. neblina sound have become a real underground institution in the spanish reggae scene and they're certainly getting more and more attention and respect from those wonderful underground reggae lovers.
u-rie, one of the singjays and producers is moving around in several other productions and he's working now with the triple-r radio station along with raspinu and other selectahs and artists from some other soundsystems and these projects surely deserve your attention too! check neblinasound website where you can download some mixtapes, shows and read some of their history; biggest up for people trying to make real music and keep it blazin!!

meanwhile, here's a great link to romy ilano's site. she's a graphic artist from germany and she has released some artzines with beautiful illustrations. interesting use of digital painting and wonderful moods evoked with her unique style. i find some of the pieces kind of twisted, which is actually what i like the most, but i like the non obvious approach... just check it!

i didn't really like the g.i. joe cartoons they showed on tv when i was a kid. the toys however, were a completely different thing... almost every kid in my neighborhood had one or a car or something related. but i do remember that every time the show ended, there was a small sketch in which one of the stars of the show gave some advice for kids.

a while ago, eric fensler redubbed 25 of these "public service announcements" and they're simply hillarious... i think you can't check them anymore at fenslerfilm but ebaumsworld has got a pretty nice collection. check them out!

it's official finally! the woodstock of reggae music is back. reggae sunsplash festival will be held in 2006 in ocho rios. if the right artists are to perform, this might actually be an apotheosic moment for reggae fans across the world, at least it seems that way for me.

sunsplash was the revival of live music and the gathering point for all major reggae artists like jacob miller, eek a mouse, third word, burning spear and bob marley. from 1978 to 1997 the event proved to be an unforgettable experience but in the latter years the show kept bringing less people. 9 years have passed and the jamaican music scene has grown a lot, i'm sure that a legendary mega show is the best way to get many artists worldwide attention and reggae fans a couple of memories that will be there forever... imagine the scene! jamaica, beach, coconut rum (if no bacardi), cristal clear yet extremely loud reggae, dancing, the agony!, my empress, locks, more reggae!, more rum, more dancing, more of her... and mi chalice, mi sweet little chalice.

sunsplash has toured all over the world in it's past editions, let just hope they do it this time in case, just in case, we don't happen to go to jamaica.

omega vibration, conscious reggae, action and no words; alika has certainly become the most important woman in latin reggae. her story goes back to the hardcore hip-hop band: actitud maria marta which she left a couple of years ago and then turned to rastafari enlightenment. she has released a couple of albums with her band nueva alianza and now sista alika is back with new material: "razon, meditacion y accion" touring latin america.
her website is very simple with design and programming but powerful in content. check out all of the goodies you can find in there: vegetarian recipes, planting your own food methods, rastafari related texts, a great deal of links to reggae sites and the universal declaration of human rights.
i don't know if she's touring outside latin america, but if you manage to find out a venue she's playing at near you, storm down and go see beautiful mighty empress alika. big up black woman!!!

back from amsterdam, i got lots of ideas of things to post here that i saw there like the freak brothers comic (spoiler for next post). however, bjork is news again and i couldn't help but spread the word that matthew barney's drawing restraint 9 is out now and she has made the soundtrack for it. selmasongs proved that bjork has a wider-much deeper understanding of music itself and of it's interaction with image. if lars von trier's idea of a score was understood by her perfectly... i can't even imagine what she has done for her husband's movie.

i came across a beautiful site, judging that by it's content. i consider myself a digital graphics freak and have always loved the achievements users and developers have obtained throughout the digital era. for most of the population (with a computer and internet access) the name photoshop is not a stranger. this software has been giving us most of the images we've been consuming for more than a decade.

this site gives you a chronology of the program as well as some really interesting (for some of us) facts and images from all the versions that have been realeased. i started with photoshop 4.0 and it really makes me shed a tear when i see that interface. i think i can even remember some of the names of the developers in the splash screen... we've been together a long time my friend.

i have had this friend for a long long time, he has just moved to barcelona and i hadn't seen him for a while. after some drinks and catching up, we ended up in this place where we met a group of underrated models working for a bathing suit company... being summer and all. me and andres thought that we'd never had a chance, but things ended up with a bunch of them coming to our flat. after many many hours of drinking and such, we were all exhausted so i had to look for a dvd or something to watch and chill with some smokes. we went through the vast dvd collection and found a bill hicks' dvd. you might ask who he is... (we did).
this guy had really conquered stand up comedy and turned it into a way of expressing really interesting issues he thought were meant to be said... and heard. during his life (he died of cancer) he constantly tried to make people embrace and understand the situation we're living in, that consciousness is a thing we should pursue and most importantly: that life is just a ride.

after the one hour documentary and one live show in L.A. we were completely blown away by this guy's act but then we lost interest and kept on doing what we were doing. now the girls have been living in our flat for almost a week and we're planning on taking a trip... and then get them out of here. be sure to check out bill hicks at these links!!!!

still shocked by the war, famine and poverty images i saw in james nachtwey's work and after taking a glance at some interesting information in whatreallyhappened.com, i decided i was completely ignorant in major events happening in the world today and that i needed to learn more about them. i remembered i read about this documentary and i wondered if it was still on the theater, it was. it's a film called darwin's nightmare and it's definetely worth watching. crude reality on capitalist system draining third world countries' resources and people. famine, disease, war, prostitution, planes and most importantly... fish.

try to catch it if it's somewhere near you and try to understand how the world is working and how the hell can we do something about it. doubtfully through a weblog but it might as well work as a start.

i suppose that most people are aware that war has been a companion to humankind’s evolution since unthinkable times. actually, right now there is war going on in some parts of the world… everywhere is war. however, it doesn’t seem so real until we run into some shocking images of someone who was a witness, not at spectator like the vast majority of the planet. It’s absolutely depressing to see people having to live a life where nothing matters anymore but to kill someone or die. imagine yourself forced to be with hundreds of your kind against hundreds of foreigners or radicals in some matter opposed to you. is your mind blank when you face yourself with the certainty of getting killed? how can you feel then when you are not killed, but covered in someone else’s blood and he’s just lying there, lifeless… anonymous?

i have always been a huge fan of maynard's work, either musically or visually. tool and a perfect circle have always been giving rock music an interesting perspective on sound and concept. a couple of weeks ago i found out that maynard appeared in a short independent film playing the role of a police officer in middle o f nowhere (texas or similar) and the starring role was played by audioslave's drummer brad wilk. i saw the trailer on the official site and it seemed kind of interesting although i think it might fall into the classic all american-desert drama plot. but you definetely need to see maynard's look, it's simply overwhelming, he looks like some other guy, seriously.

if you happen to get the movie please do comment on it's content 'cause spite my big commitment to being a tool/apc/maynard fan i'm just not ordering it online. check it out for yourself and send me a copy if you do buy it.

wondering about the origins of mankind has always been kind of annoying for me 'cause i can't seem to have a good day afterwards. there's a big amount of uncertainty in all the data and theories available in our century and people seem to be okay with it. we don't know where we're going and where we came from...doesn't matter as long as there's a new item to buy or a new idol to follow.

stanislav szukalski was one of the many that worked fiercely to create a valid theory, but this was only a kind of sideproject to his main interests and doings. at some point he was pointed out in his native poland as the "greatest living artist"; sculpture, drawings, paintings and texts made szukalski in the mid 30's an artist to name a museum after and a pride for poland. later his work was demolished altogether with his museum during the world war II, that's how he has remained esentially unknown through all these years.

now there's an exhibition in san francisco showing a large number of szukalski's work, if you happen to live nearby, please do drop by and prepare to be shocked by artwork inspired by ancient humanity... goddamn, i shoul've thought of that!!

back with the posting rampage.

live 8 has certainly been an interesting topic in the past weeks. i don't really know how it was supposed to work or which were the real intentions bob geldorf (and his horrible voice) had to make this show happen... besides tons of money and worldwide speculation.

i watched some of the performances and i really think there were some good shows scheduled. most of the artists showed some kind of weird commitment to eradicate poverty but sometimes they ended up doing stupid things like having an african kid beside them... just for no reason as if they were some kind of pokemon companion you can use to make people think you are supporting "the cause".

i hope it was at least 10% real...that would be enough to consider this a real attempt.

but regarding music, what shocked me the most was watching pink floyd getting back together after twenty something years of no relationship and a reunion definetely out of the question.

i got to see pink floyd without waters a long time ago and it was simply astonishing, i was about 12. then i saw waters separately in 2002 and it was aslo a great show, obviously and i was completely aware at that time how big was pink floyd in music history.

but man, time has certainly passed since the original echoes recording... still, it was a great show and a marvelous thing to watch.

i don't really know how to determine if someone's famous or not. i keep on running into artists or matters of all sorts thinking they're kind of underground and then discover there's a huge fanbase to almost everything... sometime's it's depressing. i guess i like too much showing new things to people and then see how much they become excited with fresh information or inspiration, i know it happens to me.

i hope you haven't heard her before, 'cause the first listening of her songs is simply mindbending. she's from iceland and has got a great voice. she's been around for a while but i've never seen her been recognized in major media sources. although she made a song for the lord of the rings: the two towers... the gollum song. emiliana torrini has just released a new album, more acoustic and proper for rainy afternoons in a lonely beach... preferably asia or somewhere similar; that should be nice.enter the world of emiliana and summon an adequate place to listen to her songs. i'm in love again...

i ran into this amazing artist a couple of weeks ago in a live performance; she is the backup singer for german reggae star gentleman and now she has released this maxi single after winning the bundesvision song contest back in germany. although she is not interested as a whole into reggae music composing, her first single "lass los" (let go) is a ver nice song that falls into this genre. you can check out her website and order her cd at amazon.de. however, if you're outside of germany the shipment fee can be the same as the single but oh well, don't we all love shopping online?

it is hard to say who is going to be the next main character in history. we are living in this strange era: the digital or information era. a time/space that becomes really unstable, uncertain...with no real main current or stream towards a specific future.
